The couple with the greatest period of living together in the world recently celebrated the 86th anniversary of marriage. Karam Chand, 106 years old and his wife kartaram, where more than 99 years, now living in the English city of Bradford, tied the knot 6 January 1925 in India, when the country was still ruled by the British rulers.
They were married for four years longer than the one that was recorded in the previous record holders, and, at the moment the representatives of the Guinness Book of Records under consideration for listing it in the book of world records. Spouses Chand, whose eight children, 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, have lived in love and harmony, caring for each other and enjoying family life.
Mr Chand, a former steel mill worker who moved to live in Britain in 1965, said he never indulged in the pleasures of enjoying every drop of whiskey and a cigarette. When asked about the secret to longevity, he replied: "Eat and drink all you want, but exercise moderation." Ms Chand also added regarding their marriage, "marriage breakdown in 86 years - it was fortunate for us, we were always there, took care of each other, and always have been absorbed by his family."
She said she is looking forward to the moment when it receives a telegram from the Queen of the United Kingdom on the occasion of its anniversary next year and therefore tries not to get sick and stay in shape.
"We have always eaten good wholesome food, were excluded from the diet products of artificial origin, but products such as ghee (clarified melted butter), milk and fresh yogurt we loved and used regularly. We believe that a marriage lasting 86 years, it is a blessing from above, we really have lived a good life, but we are also ready to leave this world, when it will be pleasing to God. "
