Car lighter shades are more economical than cars of dark colors

Research conducted by American scientists from Lawrence National Laboratory, lead to the conclusion that the color of the car has a great impact on its economy. Car, painted in bright colors, consume less fuel and emit less harmful substances.

In the experiment, we took two identical sedan Honda Civic, one of which was silver and the other black. Both cars were equipped with numerous sensors that measure the temperature on the roof and inside the car. Also tested the efficiency of air conditioners, and measured the amount of harmful substances in the exhaust gases.

Abandoned car in the sun for all positions showed different results. The roof of the silver car has warmed much less, and in his cabin was 5-6 degrees cooler than the inside of the black Civica. Therefore, air conditioning to cool the light machine took away from the engine less power, and this difference was 13 percent. This difference leads to a fuel saving 0.12 l/100 km and carbon dioxide emissions of oxides of nitrogen and other gases in the dirty light vehicles less than 0.8 percent.
