A new asteroid discovered by Russian astronomers

Working with a network of automated telescopes such masters of Russian astronomers have discovered in the main asteroid belt, a new minor planet in size from 1.5 to 2 kilometers, which is located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

"What happened is still on November 12. Asteroid named on the global database that is designated in 2012 VG82. It is a celestial body, located between Mars and Jupiter in the main asteroid belt, "- said in his blog Sergei Yaz, director of the Astronomical Observatory of Irkutsk State University.

New heavenly body, as explained by Yaz, was found in the database of observations made with telescopes MASTER network, which is set in the valley of Buryatia Tunkinskaya astrophysical landfill owned by the Irkutsk State University.

Denis Denisenko, at the State Sternberg Astronomical Institute of Moscow State University, which relied on information Yaz, explained that the new asteroid could only note of what is now the object is closest to the Earth - in opposition to our planet. This minimum distance is very great indeed, and reaches a little more than 110 million km.

A distinctive feature of the asteroid 2012 VG82 is quite elongated orbit: perihelion of the planet (the point of the orbit closest to the Sun) is 1.706 astronomical units, which is equivalent to 255 million km from the Sun, while the aphelion (farthest point from the orbit) - 2.57 AU , i.e. 384 million miles. Its orbit does not intersect the orbit of the Earth absolutely nowhere, so any possible collision with our planet.

The absolute magnitude of the asteroid (H) is only 17.7, meaning that its size is approximately 1.5 to 2 miles.
